Open Question: Thailand Immigration/visa question?

Im going traveling with my girlfriend to Thailand on the 29th March 2009 and coming back six months later on the 29th of september 2009, we are going to get a Multiple entry Non-Immigrant Visa which means you can stay for a 90day period at once. The thing I was struggling to understand was having proof of a onward journey, because out return flight tickets aren't until 29th of september do I need to book somewhere else to go before 90 days or will my september 29th ticket be adequate? sorry its a bit long winded! an idiots guide to immigration and visa's would be handy.
